The first issue had audio problems and was quickly corrected and re-issued. * The second pressing was issued with a free 7", Blue Monday 1988 (RTD 035). - An issue of the NME magazine contained a sticker that was supposed to have "completed" the cover. The sticker is commonly called "Press technique." - An ad called "Advertising technique" promoted the album in the US.
The cherub on the sleeve is a garden ornament that Peter Saville found on Pimlico Road. Peter thought the bacchanalian image was ironically fitting for the new "drug-fuelled hedonism" in the music scene. Rob Gretton thought the album's title should be "Peter Saville's New Order" (as in "Andy Warhol's Velvet Underground"). The idea "went down like a lead balloon with the band."
Q: I have heard that a single mix of Vanishing Point was made. Is that true?Argentinean vinyl:
Argentinean sleeves:
- Testpress: The testpress was made in 10 copies. Regular white labels with DG 234 A/B written on them were used. The groove notation says "DG234A" and "DG234B". The testpress came in the withdrawn sleeve.
- Regular: The regular vinyl has the same groove notation as the testpress, but the labels are red. The sleeve used was initially the withdrawn sleeve but replaced with the regular sleeve.
- Promo: The London promo release from 1992 has black labels with the tracks listed in Spanish and English. The promo sleeve was used.
- Withdrawn: The withdrawn sleeve is like the UK one but with "DG 234" in a black box in upper right corner. No additional text. The sleeve was used for the testpress and initial copies of the regular release.
- Regular: The regular sleeve is like the withdrawn sleeve, but with additional text in black print to the upper right. The text says "Neworder", and "Technique" just below it. This sleeve was used for the regular release.
- Promo: The promo sleeve is like the UK one but with "Neworder Technique" to the upper right. "Neworder" in white and "Technique" in turquoise. "PolyGram" is written down in the left corner. The sleeve was used for the (London) promo issue.
