Success
The Niagara Falls Police Department with the help of the Niagara
Falls Weed and Seed Program has been making a dynamic impact
in the Weed and Seed community. Just a few of the many
things the NFPD has been able to accomplish with the assistance
of the Weed and Seed program are:
-
The NFPD has made numerous drug arrests and quality of life
sweeps.
-
The
ability to investigate narcotic search warrants.
-
The
ability to provide a presence at Niagara Falls High School
sporting events.
-
Attend
block club and civic organization meetings as requested.
-
Implement
a Citizen Police Academy.
-
Implement
a Youth Police Academy.
Before Weed and Seed funding the NFPD were handicapped in completing
some of the community activities that are vital for successful
*seeding* practices. Weed and Seed has allowed for more
overtime of officers for community policing and patrol.
Weed and Seed has also allowed for crime mapping to establish
which areas of the city are troubled, and need more police presence.
Weed and Seed has also enabled the NFPD to be available for gang
presentations to any organization that are interested in having
it.
Minority Business Workshops
The Niagara County Community College Small Business Development
Center in collaboration with the Weed and Seed Program, HSBC Bank,
Niagara Falls Empire Zone, U.S. Small Business Administration,
and the Highland Community Revitalization Committee, Inc. offered
business workshops at the NFHA Doris Jones Family Resource Building
during the month of April. Some of the topics included: Services
Available for Small Businesses; Credit Counseling/Access to Capital;
Business Plan Development; and Developing a Marketing Plan. These
workshops were extremely successful and a wonderful example of
collaborative work for the good of our residents and the community.
