One of the biggest tasks young infants face is to learn to move in purposeful, goal-directed ways. During the first 18 months, infants progress from being immobile newborns capable of executing only simple, primarily reflexive movements to toddlers who can walk, climb, and play with toys. My research is investigating how these changes come about. My students and I are currently conducting research projects with young infants using two different methodologies: mobile and visual perception tasks.
