On-going:
"Keeping it Green"
In partnership with Niagara Falls Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS), Inc., ReNU Niagara is coordinating a community garden project, called "Keeping it Green", at 16th Street and Ferry Avenue behind the NHS apartments.
The project is a partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension, East Side Block Club, Highland Revitalization Committee, Inc., and Niagara Falls Weed and Seed.
The youth lead garden is a summer-long project in which youth will plant vegetables and then maintain the garden throughout the summer into September. Once the vegetables are harvested, youth in Niagara Falls will sell the vegetables to local residents, with the profits going to maintain the garden in years to come. This is a pilot project demonstrating what citizens can do in vacant lots around the city or in their own yards.
Crops include: melons, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, eggplant, peppers, squash, strawberries, and a variety of herbs. Come check it out!
If interested in volunteering, check out the ReNU Niagara Volunteer Center or stop by the office at 1816 Main Street. See flyer for more details: click here.
"Keeping it Green" is funded through a grant by NeighborWorks America.
