A
international conference on video art is
held at the Museum of Modern Art.
Artpark,
a state-funded park devoted to the visual and performing arts, opens
in Lewiston, New York, minutes away from the Castellani. Niagara
University faculty member Brother Augustine Towey is instrumental
in the founding of this unique outdoor art space, which, however,
gradually loses its state funding in the nineties, eventually discontinuing
its most innovative programming.
Two Buffalo art spaces, Hallwalls and CEPA,
are formally organized, with CEPA opening in 1974 and Hallwalls
in 1975. These two artist-run spaces become internationally-known
mainstays of the Western New York scene.
Patricia Hearst is abducted by the Symbionese Liberation
Army.
