ATTENDANCE POLICY: The CIS Departmental policy is the following.
1. Attendance at lectures is required and students will be asked to sign in at each class session, unless the instructor takes roll.
2. If weather or other problems are such that the instructor is delayed, or absent, the following procedure is to be used to record your attendance prior to leaving the classroom.
a. Wait 20 minutes past normal starting time.
b. On a sheet of paper, each student must sign his name to form
an attendance sheet.
c. One student should write the name and number of the class
with the date, and deliver it to the CIS Office, House #2,
Varsity Village.
Since we continuously build on previously studied material, the wise student will make every effort to maintain perfect attendance.
Programming coursesProgramming projects may be submitted late, but will be penalized for lateness. 5 points will be deducted for every week or fraction of a week of lateness, to a maximum deduction of 20 points. Weeks are not counted during academic vacations such as the Thanksgiving and spring breaks. At the instructor's discretion, a student who submits a project that is woefully short of satisfying specifications may be required to continue working on the project, even though the student ordinarily would be working on the next project. This is because projects build on their predecessors, so there is little chance of success on project i+1 until the student has had significant success on project i. See this link for more information on how I grade a program. To accept written homework exercises late would generally be unfair, as we may discuss the solutions in class on the due date. Therefore, written homework exercises will not ordinarily be accepted late. Exceptions may be made for compelling reasons such as severe illness, although it would be preferable for you to submit your exercises by fax or e-mail, if you cannot be in class on the due date.

CIS 23250% will be deducted from a project turned in after the deadline up to and including the start of one class after the deadline. No credit will be given for a project turned in after the start of the next class following the deadline. |
Students with documented disabilities who may need accommodations, students who have any emergency medical information the instructor should know of, or students who need special arrangements in the event of an evacuation, should make an appointment with the instructor as early as possible in the semester, preferably no later than the first week of the semester. Students with disabilities must also register with Kelly Adams, Disability Specialist (716-286-8541, kadams@niagara.edu, first floor Seton Hall, Office of Academic Support) to facilitate the provision of needed accommodations.
Students having trouble coping with the stresses of University life or related problems are encouraged to use the Niagara University Counseling Services.
